Some weddings are beautiful. Some are emotional. And some are so full of personality that you can’t help but smile when you think about them.
Brooke and Alex’s wedding at Ocean Kave was all three.
With family and friends travelling from around the world, they wanted their celebration to feel relaxed, personal and completely them. They weren’t looking for a traditional wedding day filled with formalities. They wanted incredible views, plenty of laughter, time with the people they loved and a few unforgettable surprises along the way.
And, of course, Brooke wanted to wear cowboy boots.
Set within 60 acres of private coastal grounds near Westward Ho!, Ocean Kave was the perfect place for their North Devon wedding. With dramatic clifftops, peaceful countryside, resident horses and sweeping Atlantic views, it gave Brooke and Alex the spectacular setting they had been dreaming of.
The Wedding Weekend Begins
Because guests had travelled from all over the world, Brooke and Alex decided to turn their wedding into a full weekend of celebrations.
Everyone arrived the day before and settled into the luxury onsite cottages at Westward Living. Having their closest family and friends all together meant the celebrations could begin early, with plenty of time to relax, catch up and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
On Friday evening, the group gathered in the cosy BBQ Hut for a relaxed pre-wedding get-together. It was the perfect chance for everyone to meet before the big day, with drinks, laughter and Ocean Kave’s resident horses making an appearance in the background.
The atmosphere was warm, easy-going and full of excitement. By the end of the evening, everyone was ready for the main event.
Brooke’s Cowboy Boots and a Ceremony by the Sea
On the wedding day, Brooke made her way up the aisle with her father beside her and the Atlantic Ocean stretching out behind them.
She looked incredible in her elegant, silk, floor-length, off-the-shoulder wedding dress. But the real talking point was her fabulous pair of cowboy boots, which added the perfect personal touch and celebrated her American heritage.
They were stylish, fun and unmistakably Brooke.
The ceremony was filled with everything that made their relationship so special: heartfelt vows, happy tears, plenty of laughter and lots of love. It felt intimate and genuine, with their closest family and friends gathered around them and the North Devon coastline providing the most spectacular backdrop imaginable.
Once Brooke and Alex were officially married, everyone headed outside to enjoy Kir Royale and delicious canapés on the lawn. With the sun shining, the sea views stretching into the distance and the celebrations in full swing, it was a wonderfully happy start to married life.
Racehorses, Clifftops and Sunset Adventures
Brooke and Alex’s wedding photographs were always going to be something special.
With so much of Ocean Kave to explore, they had plenty of opportunities to create an album that felt as adventurous and individual as they are. They joined Gareth Williams of GRW Photography for a relaxed photoshoot around the grounds, making the most of the gardens, clifftops, countryside and Atlantic views.
There were romantic portraits overlooking the sea, beautiful photographs with Ocean Kave’s resident racehorses and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery together.
The horses were a particularly memorable part of the day. They provided a wonderfully unexpected backdrop and added even more personality to their wedding photographs.
As the afternoon turned to evening, Brooke and Alex headed to nearby Westward Ho! Beach for a sunset photoshoot. The dramatic coastline, golden light and crashing waves created the perfect setting for some truly breathtaking images.
It was also a chance for the newlyweds to escape for a little while, take in the moment and enjoy being married before returning to the party.
Tomahawk Steaks and a Party in the Rustic Barn
When Brooke and Alex returned to the Rustic Barn, they were greeted by cheers, hugs and plenty of excitement from their family and friends.
The evening began with heartfelt speeches, lots of laughter and a delicious BBQ feast. The couple had chosen enormous tomahawk steaks for the menu, which quickly became one of the talking points of the evening—and proved very popular with hungry guests.
After a day filled with emotion, sunshine and adventure, everyone was ready to celebrate properly.
With the sensational Richard James providing the soundtrack, the Rustic Barn soon filled with music and dancing. Cocktails were flowing, lawn games were being enjoyed and the dance floor was busy throughout the evening.
The atmosphere was relaxed, joyful and wonderfully lively. There was no pressure to follow a strict schedule or keep things overly formal. Brooke and Alex simply enjoyed the evening with the people they loved most.
A wedding that was totally Brooke and Alex
From the very beginning, Brooke and Alex knew they wanted their wedding to feel personal.
They wanted their guests to feel welcome, their families to have time together and their day to be filled with moments that felt natural and meaningful. They wanted beautiful scenery, but they also wanted fun. They wanted romance, but not too much formality.
Their Ocean Kave wedding delivered all of that and more.
There were cowboy boots beneath a sparkling wedding dress, racehorses in the photographs, sunset adventures at Westward Ho! Beach, giant tomahawk steaks, emotional vows and a whole lot of dancing.
It was stylish without being stiff, romantic without being overly formal and full of the warmth, humour and personality that made it uniquely theirs.
Most importantly, it was a celebration of Brooke and Alex—not just a wedding that looked beautiful, but a wedding that felt like them.
