Events & Exhibitions - Best Business at the “Working Woman’s Oscars”

December 2015

Our Director, Kathy, was shocked and thrilled to be awarded “Best Business of the Year” at North Devon’s annual Venus awards on 27th November.

Investing in the local area is a key part of Kathy and her family’s ethos and as such the award means a huge amount to everyone. As a result of this regional award, she will be invited to attend the National Awards in summer 2016, where she will represent Devon against the other inspirational regional winners.

Category sponsor Sandra Sampson of Sampson Hall said: “Sampson Hall have been extremely proud to sponsor the Business of the Year award for Venus and we are thrilled and delighted to have Kathy Murdoch as our winner this year. This year the standard of entries was extremely high but it was her entrepreneurial spirit and approach to business that made us realise she was an exceptional candidate and someone who had learnt a great deal on her entrepreneurial journey. She is also a great Ambassador for Westward Ho! and the North Devon business community and we wish her every future success.

Although not a stranger to receiving awards, Kathy confessed to being surprised and humbled by the accolade: “As a full time working Mum, it is hard to know that you are always doing the right thing. Sometimes you have to work when your children are poorly, you can’t always make every school event and that makes you feel horribly guilty even though you are doing it for your children. My dream is to boost the local economy and make Westward Ho! an area that my boys will want to stay in when they grow up, while giving them the financial security to follow their dreams. This is why the award means so much to me, not just as a businesswoman but as a mother. I am honoured to have won this accolade and look forward to growing the business next year and working with the many talented, inspirational women I met during the Venus Awards process.”
