Green Devon Weddings

Committed to helping our couples create the day of their dreams whilst making greener choices.
Devon outdoor weddings

Ocean Kave is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in a world famous UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, which means we have a longstanding commitment and passion to protect and respect  our stunning environment.  We want to make sure that your wedding day leaves you and your guests with magical memories that will last a lifetime. However, weddings can take a huge toll on the environment, which is why we are committed to helping our couples to create the day of their dreams whilst making greener choices.

Our well-established plastics policy has been embraced by our suppliers, staff and guests. We don’t use any single-use plastics in our stunning reception suite, the Sunset Rooms: that’s no plastic bottles, no plastic straws, no plastic glasses.

If you are considering an Ocean Kave wedding and you would like something specific, talk to our Events team; they will do their best to find you a sustainably sourced, environmentally friendly alternative. We also recommend that couples make the decision to use only biodegradable balloons and ribbons. Personally, we think that striped straws add something really special to a couple’s styling.

We know that many couples just adore fireworks and lanterns. However, the environment doesn’t. Our couples are lucky enough to share their wedding venue with myriad wild creatures: from bunnies to foxes, and even the occasional deer, as well as our very own horses, hens and domestic pets. Because we are kind to the environment as well as our non-human residents, we don’t allow fireworks or lanterns. Instead, we offer couples the opportunity to delight their guests with  a spectacular laser show that promises to wow without spoiling our glorious environment.

There are so many choices that you can make to reduce your use of non-recycled and non-recyclable paper that we had to write a whole other blogwith ideas for you and your guests! At Ocean Kave, we do our part; we recycle everything that can be recycled, and we don’t use paper napkins.  What’s more, wherever possible, we communicate electronically. This includes wedding planning and booking confirmations, it even includes our menus and brochures. Of course, we are happy to send hard copies if you would like, or if you need it in a different format such as braille or large print, but as a rule, we try to avoid paper brochures.

We know that your guests would love to get you a gift to remind you of your beautiful day, to wish you luck and happiness in your future together, and to thank you for allowing them to witness your union. However, if like many of our happy couples you already have a well-established home together, you could consider reducing waste by asking guests to make a donation in your name to charity, instead.

Reduce travel – for you, your guests, your clothes and food!

We are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful locations in the country where we are surrounded by a broad choice of farmers and local producers. From intimate weddings to larger weddings, every Ocean Kave menu is carefully designed and curated by our head chef and features seasonal, local produce to reduce those food miles.

It’s not just food that leaves a carbon footprint. Try to be aware of where your flowers, clothes and jewellery are coming from and, wherever possible, buy local.  Encourage guests to buy local, too.

By having your wedding at Ocean Kave, you are already making a green choice as guests don’t need to travel from wedding venue to reception. What’s more, if you choose to stay in your award winning bridal suite at  Westward Living for your honeymoon, you will be saving further carbon emissions – and you get to honeymoon in the most beautiful location in the world (we might be biased!).

Reducing waste and increasing the impact on our local community is at the heart of our operations. With a happy couple’s permission, we like to make the impact of their magical day go even further by helping them to regift items that might otherwise go to waste. With consent, food can be donated to a local partner who will instantly redistribute it to people most in need. Left over flowers aren’t left to wilt unnoticed, either; we take them to local nursing and care homes, where they brighten up the residents’ living areas.

We constantly strive to improve what we do to minimise our environmental impact without compromising on quality and value for our couples. If you have any ideas or questions about eco weddings at Ocean Kave, please get in touch.

From the moment that we met Kathy at Ocean Kave we knew that this was going to be our venue! The whole experience from start to finish was exceptional, 4 months later our guests are still raving about the food and accommodation, we can't thank you enough for everything.

The whole day went seamlessly and that's totally down to the Ocean Kave Staff. The food was amazing, it simply couldn't be faulted, so a big thanks to the chef and their team. Everyone had a fantastic day from start to finish.
