Organising a micro wedding during a global pandemic is never going to be easy, but our wedding planners are continuing to do everything possible to ensure that couples have the day of their dreams, regardless.
Rocio and Jose had a simple dream: to get married by the sea with their dog, the beautiful Akita dog Luna, by their side. And of course, at Ocean Kave, our couple’s wish is our command! The wedding was planned for 31st October, no guarantee for travel restrictions or the weather. However, as far as a wedding in Covid-times is concerned, a wedding with just one four-legged guest and a handful of close human guests is the most likely to proceed as planned. The date was set for a small wedding, with Rocio and Jose incorporating their magical day into a stunning autumnal North Devon weekend.
As always, our team were on hand to support the couple not just on the day itself, but in the run up to the event. This meant that we were able to help the couple when they had a few issues with the registrars in their hometown of Coventry.
As the day approached, we got down to the fun details. We decided to make a change from the usual layout so that the chairs would face outwards, meaning that the couple would have a view of the Atlantic Ocean whatever the weather, yet still be comfy and warm with the roaring wood burner inside. The Kave was decorated with myriad of over 300 candles and looked utterly magical, perfect for an autumn wedding.
Rocio looked simply stunning in a classic, white lace dress and Jose looked dashing in a simple grey suit; Luna, however, stole the show in a bespoke doggy corsage and red shoes. The service was simply beautiful – and beautifully simple, made all the more special by the rugged backdrop and exquisite lighting. Following the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed drinks before heading to Westward Ho! beach for some romantic photos. While Jose braved the elements for the photo shoot, Rocio wore an absolutely exquisite, Narnia-inspired cape, which not only kept her warm, but added to the romance of the photos. The couple appointed the fabulous well known North Devon wedding photographer Jon Malyn from Indigo Perspective to cover thier wedding photos. The Ocean Kave package does include an hours photography but couples have the option to add on extra time with their photographer directly and Indigo Perspective have created some wonderful packages exclusively for Ocean Kave couples.
In “normal times” the couple and their guests would have been able to enjoy in-cottage dining, with a bespoke menu prepared with fresh local ingredients. However, as restrictions prevented this, they enjoyed the next best thing; a wedding breakfast at stunning local restaurant, the Royal George in the iconic fishing village of Appledore. The owner, Garth, is a fluent in Spanish, which went down very well with the Spanish couple and their guests, as did the exquisite local fare.
The couple were staying within the grounds at Westward Living, at the end of their perfect day, the couple retired to Kala’s cottage, where they were able to stargaze from their balcony using the Mighty telescope. Their guests’ 5-star day ended with a stay in the 5-star Surcoat Cottage. Westward Living offers a collection of 14 self catering holiday cottages, which make them a very popular choice for couples getting married in North Devon at Ocean Kave coastal wedding venue.
It was a wonderful day filled with moments that will be cherished forever. We wish the happy couple every happiness in the future, and thank them for their lovely message: “Gracias Kathy and Chris, You made our wedding a dream. The Kave was so beautiful, we couldn’t have chosen anywhere better to start our lives as a married couple. I still can’t believe that anew lockdown was announced just a few hours after we made it. Stay safe and thanks for everything, we’d really love to return to Westward Living soon. Love, Rocio, Jose and Luna.
