James and Toby's ultimate destination wedding

James and Toby's ultimate destination wedding

The views from Ocean Kave never fail to astound, and as we approached the wedding venue on Saturday 15thof June, we were left in no doubt that it was going to be a spectacular day.

When we first met James and Toby, they told us that their dream was to be married on the cliff top in the ultimate Destination Wedding; clear skies, the undulating ocean, with seagulls soaring overhead and a gentle sea breeze. And, of course, while our team were willing to do everything in their power to ensure that that happened, we also needed to manage expectations. Mass sighs of relief were, therefore, audible throughout the venue and holiday accommodation as we woke up to glorious sunshine.

While the events team worked hard dressing the Sunset Rooms and setting out seats for the cliff top ceremony, James added finishing touches while his mum assembled the stunning grey and white wedding cake; a creation that had been tried and tested since Easter (the family are unanimous in that they may not eat cake for a while!). Her hard work paid off as the cake looked absolutely divine; a perfect tribute to her son and his husband.

As guests arrived, they were greeted with breath-taking views; if you didn’t know that you were tucked away in an idyllic corner of North Devon, you would assume that you were on some far-flung, tropical island. Guests were invited to take a seat and await the arrival of the wedding party; blankets were offered during the short wait as, despite the tropical views, the climate was decidedly English! Toby and James both looked just beautiful exuding laid-back panache in complementing tweed suits, while the groomsmen and bridesmaids looked resplendent in claret. The couple were given away by both of their mums, and as the four walked down the aisle accompanied by a bespoke playlist, there was not a dry eye; even the staff shed a tear or two!

Following the ceremony, Toby, James, the bridesmaids, groomsmen and close family retired to the Kave itself, where they shared a few bottles of champagne and took the time to celebrate on a more intimate level. Meanwhile, the guests enjoyed the views and a welcome drink before heading to the Sunset Rooms. The Sunset Rooms were exquisitely styled with simple gypsophila and each guest had a tiny bottle of Westward Ho! sand to commemorate their special day. Guests enjoyed a delicious barbecue followed by a trio of desserts. Speeches ensued, which, again, induced tears of pride, happiness and laughter.

As the evening guests started to arrive, the music ramped up and people took the opportunity to enjoy the last of the sunshine with games outside. Toby and James made the most of the weather with divine sunset shots as they enjoyed a few snatched moments of peace together and watched the sun set on the most memorable day of their lives.

With music by Renegades of Rock, the happy couple and their guests danced the night away, taking advantage of the range of cocktails on offer at the bar, and enjoying sweet treats from the sweet table! Of course, no wedding would be complete without a game of Mr & Mr; who won? A good wedding planner never tells!

It was such a great honour that James and Toby decided to celebrate their nuptials at Ocean Kave. Weddings are more about the union of two people; they are the joining of families and friends, who may be part of one person’s past and present, but who will be part of the couple’s future. This union was especially clear with Toby and James as they, their mums, families and friends joined together to celebrate the clear love and devotion that the couple have for each other.

Toby and James: we wish you a future filled with happiness, sea and sunshine, and look forward to seeing you again soon!
