Every couple is different. Some fantasise about a big wedding day with all of the trimmings. For some, friends and family are an intrinsic part of the day, and a wedding wouldn’t be a wedding without a big party. But for some, the wedding day is just about the couple; love is all that matters and a party for two is all that they need. South African-born Sam and Ryan are one such couple and when they were looking for a magical location that reminded them of their roots and which gave as much attention to detail to weddings for two as they do for weddings for 102, Ocean Kave was an obvious choice.
The couple opted for the full elopement experience and chose to upgrade their two nights’ accommodation to Royal Celerity, a perfectly intimate ceremony, beach photos and a first night as Mr & Mrs enjoying a fine dining experience from Ocean Kave’s Executive Chef.
The couple’s wedding day arrived with a fresh, summer breeze and blue skies. Ryan headed to the Ocean Kave where he awaited the arrival of his stunning bride. Sam looked simply breath taking in a cream lace gown; Ryan opted for holiday chic in chinos and shirt. The knowledge that they had both dressed for each other only somehow made them all the more beautiful and it was a very special moment as the couple pledged to spend the rest of their lives together.
After the ceremony, the couple toasted each other before having photos taken within the grounds of Ocean Kave and the nearby Westward Ho! beach. They had brought beautiful “love” parasols which made the perfect prop for a romantic wedding photo shoot. The Elopement wedding package includes 1 hours photography and the couple chose to add on some extra time with Marc to capture thier beautiful beach shots. They enjoyed a few drinks in the Barn and met Alan, Kathy’s dad, who had spent time in Cape Town when he respresented the UK in the first Whitbread Round the world yacht race in 1973; the trio chatted and reminisced for a while before the couple headed to Royal Celerity for their romantic private dining experience.
Both enjoyed fresh local crab on sourdough with picked radish, pancetta and avocado. For mains, Ryan opted for local Devon Ruby sirloin steak with horseradish suet crust, red wine jus and dauphinoise potatoes, while Sam chose bream fillet on wilted baby spinach with an olive oil, sundried tomato, black olive, rosemary and caper dressing and crushed new potatoes. Dessert consisted of lemon posset with raspberries and lavender shortbread, and chocolate, hazelnut and Armagnac tart Chantilly cream. The meal was finished with fresh coffee and homemade petit fours. The couple had a lovely evening celebrating their lives together with a few glasses of fizz!
This was a truly special day and we were truly honoured to be part of it. Maybe it’s best summed up by a recent message from the couple:
“With everything that is going on in the world at the moment, we are reminded of the amazing memories you shared with us last year… So much has happened but one of the things that has helped keep our sanity is the reminder of our truly magical wedding day. And while it was only the two of us there, both you and Chris and all at Ocean Kave and Westward Living made it special for us – a day we will never forget. We look forward to coming back in the near future to share and make more amazing memories.”
Every wedding was unique, and this one was just as special as any other. Sam and Ryan arrived at Westward Living as guests and they left as friends – we wish them a wonderful future together and look forward to making happy memories with them in the future.
