Hayley and Scott's Delightful Devonshire Wedding

Hayley and Scott's Delightful Devonshire Wedding

For couples who are not sure whether they want a simple elopement or a big white wedding, the micro-wedding could just be the perfect compromise. With all of the detail and magic of a larger gathering as well as the tailored, personal simplicity of eloping, the micro wedding really does offer the best of both worlds.

Despite having enjoyed many magical holidays in Devon, first as a couple, and then as a family with a young daughter, it didn’t occur to Hayley and Scott to celebrate their nuptials in their favourite holiday location. Only when the pandemic forced them to rethink their original overseas plan for a destination wedding did Devon occur to them, by which point they couldn’t believe that it hadn’t been their first choice all along! Hayley says: “I couldn't stop thinking about Ocean Kave and just had to enquire so I could put my mind at rest and know whether we could have our wedding there or whether it was an unrealistic dream! From then on everything just slotted into place and within just 2 weeks the venue was secured, registrar, photographer, cake, flowers, hair etc was all sorted and our wedding felt very real all of a sudden! This was a huge risk for us as we hadn't seen Ocean Kave in the flesh but we followed our hearts and knew this was meant to be.”

The couple were lucky enough to secure the August bank holiday weekend which brought with it tropical temperatures and dazzling blue skies. With a total of 25 people attending the wedding, everything was organised by Ocean Kave’s capable in-house team; all Scott and Hayley had to do was bring themselves and a cake! The menu was tailored to the couple’s unique preferences, ensuring that every taste was catered to, leaving Hayley, Scott and those closest to them to enjoy the magical day without having to worry about anything.

As the guests gathered outside the Kave beneath a dazzling sky, Hayley prepared to walk from the Sunset Rooms to the Kave; a walk that would be the first steps to the rest of her life. “It is hard to choose just one best moment! It's got to be the walk down to the Kave and my entrance to the ceremony. The walk was so peaceful; horses greeting us on the way, taking in the beautiful view and then when getting to the end of the walkway knowing my husband to be and all my loved ones were just around the corner waiting for me to arrive, it was just so exciting, and all the nerves just disappeared.”

After the outside ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed cool beers and bucks fizz on the lawns, and guests of all ages enjoyed a selection of lawn games while the photographer, Gareth of GRW Photography, captured special moments of the momentous day. According to Hayley: “Everyone needs to book Gareth for their wedding day!! This man is just the best, I can't sing his praises enough. From the minute we met he made us laugh and then just slotted into our day like a friend. His photos have made me so emotional as he captured every single moment beautifully and so many moments I didn't realise he was snapping away at. His photos are natural, not posed and they capture real life emotion. He managed to catch all the laughs, smiles, happy tears and the dance moves! We really couldn't be happier with our wedding photos and can't wait to show them off.”

As ever, the Ocean Kave team were on hand to advise the couple on excellent local suppliers to help ensure that the day went smoothly. Hayley looked simply stunning in a dress by Alta Costura in Maidstone, Kent, while her bridesmaids looked spectacular in a coral, Grecian design. Flowers by local florist, Twigs of Barnstaple perfectly coordinated and were a real testimony to the florists’ excellent communication skills, having undertaken most of the consultation process by email.

After enjoying their bespoke menu, speeches and, of course, a few more drinks in the sunshine, the happy group danced the night away, celebrating the friendships, loves and lives that had come together to form such a perfect union.

We would like to wish Hayley, Scott and their family a wonderful future together and think it is only fitting to let Hayley have the final word about her incredible day:

“Our plan B Devon wedding ended up being the best day of our lives, it was perfect and we are actually thankful that our original wedding plans couldn't go ahead as it wouldn't have topped Ocean Kave.”
