Charlie and Simon adore horses. So, of course, it makes sense that Westward Living is one of their favourite holiday destinations. The couple have been coming to stay at Westward Living for years and the team at Westward Living love welcoming them back year on year; they have even attended the races as our guests to watch one of our horses compete.
When planning their wedding, it made sense to Simon and Charlie to share their favourite place with their favourite people as they embarked on their future together. And so, they set about creating the ultimate destination wedding, where they and their guests could enjoy a weekend of celebrations, laughter and, of course, love.
The bonus of a sea view wedding at Ocean Kave is that guests are able to book accommodation on site. Charlie and Simon’s wedding guests hired every cottage and enjoyed a pre-wedding celebration with their guests at the rustic on-site barn on the Friday night.
The styling of Charlie and Simon’s wedding was whimsical, feminine and romantic. With an overriding theme of coral and lace and roses galore, there was no doubt that love was in the air. The bridesmaids looked simply divine in beautifully cut pale coral and lace dresses, while Simon and his groomsmen looked dapper in blue with coral accents. Of course, the star of the show was Charlie, whose classic beauty shone through in her lace gown and veil.
Spring showers could not put a dampener on the day; if anything, the seasonal rain added to the romance as Charlie and her dad arrived at the Kave in a horse-drawn carriage. The ceremony was full of emotion as the couple pledged to love and support each other for the rest of their lives, and the sun even made an appearance when they left the Kave to a shower of rose petal confetti as Mr & Mrs Goff! The couple and their guests enjoyed welcome drinks of Pimm’s and Bucks Fizz, accompanied by music from Sam Mayo.
The couple engaged well known professional wedding photography duo First Light Wedding Photography to caputure their day. After photos outside, Simon and Charlie went for a ride in the carriage, where they took advantage of the change in weather to put the roof down. The couple and their 90 guests returned to the Sunset Rooms, which looked glorious in peach and coral, lace and roses. They were treated to a delicious three-course meal featuring the best local produce including Brixham crab with chilli fritters and saffron mayonnaise, ham hock terrine, and baked Camembert with artisan bread. Main courses included pan-roasted cod, Devon ruby red beef, and a goats’ cheese, pear and caramelised onion tart served with vine-roasted cherry tomatoes. For dessert, guests chose from an irresistible selection of chocolate tart, seasonal berry crumble with Devon clotted cream, and poached pear sorbet. Speeches followed the meal; as can be expected with such a special couple, there was not a dry eye in the room!
The day was ended with, as you could expect from such a fun, warm and friendly group, a party to end all parties! They danced the night away, stopping only for sausage and bacon baps before heading back onto the dance floor.
There are some couples and some wedding parties that just make you smile, and Simon and Charlie’s was one of those weddings. There was a deep joy about the day that could not be marred by the odd springtime shower, and which shone from the happy faces of the couple, their family, guests – even the horses! Everything seemed to be contained in a bubble of love and happiness, and we adored being part of that bubble.
We are so pleased that we were able to play a part in Charlie and Simon’s most memorable day, and we hope that we will continue to see them as they return to us year on year. Charlie and Simon, we wish you every success as you gallop full speed into your future together.
